Review of the latest Twelve South 15Inch BookBook Mac computer case. A very good product, but a little too big... and quite expensive.
</brief>
I just received my Book Book (Vibrant Red) this morning, fresh from across the ocean, well wrapped in a nice cardboard. First impression : woah, it's big. Then, cool, it smells like leather and new stuff. :)
Overall impression : good quality, the product is nice and handy. The leather cover, vintage style, looks good. The seams are correct. The protectives foams are thick and the "spine" of the case looks very solid. I will test this on an everyday basis from now on.
The only bad side is the size the difference between inside and outside size : 12mm in depth, 27mm in width, and 28mm in length (40x276x390mm outside vs 28x249x364mm inside for the 15 Inch).
When compared to the size of a 15Inch MacBook Pro (24,1x364x249), my opinion is that the BookBook could be a bit more tighten around the computer. To achieve this, two different case should exist : one for the MacBook and one for the MacBook Pro... Alas !! Only the screen size change form one BookBook to another.
Last drawback : ordered online and shipped to France, it cost me a total of 125,55€, as to say in $170, more than double the price from the 79,99$ official price !! weehaa !! (88€ / 117$ for the BookBook + UPS shipment and 37,55€ of french customs :/ )
My conclusion would be : buy it if you're living in the States... :) Apart for the price, I recommend it and my MacBook Pro looks great inside.
Pictures coming soon.
